I
started Blessed to Be a Blessing in 2012 as a way to honor and celebrate my
birthday. I wanted to celebrate by doing
something meaningful. During this time I
was in school working on my MBA and on my way home from school each day, I
would see homeless people gathered at a small park. I thought to myself that I could use my
birthday as an opportunity to serve those less fortunate. I spoke to my husband and daughter about the
idea of having a "party in the park" for my birthday, and they were
on board with it. During this time the
city had just passed an ordinance that required anyone wanting to feed the less
fortunate in a public area to have a permit. With permit approved, we are able to give back to those who are in
need.
On August 18, 2012, I held my 1st Annual Blessed to Be a Blessing Birthday Give Back Celebration at Peggy's Point Plaza Park in Houston, TX. We feed over 50 people lunch and also gave out toiletry bags. In addition to the annual BTBAB activities, we host other community service activities and volunteer with other nonprofit organizations as well.
